"Yaz"

This is kind of an introduction to one of the guys i'll be picking up. Have a few on the way of him as well. I am talking about Yasmani Grandal a catcher on the USA National team as well as a standout for the Miami Hurricanes baseball team. I' a big fan of this guy and he's one of the few polished pro prospects out there right now who are draft eligible at the Catcher spot. Has decent pop in his bat and can manage a staff. His cards are pretty cheap right now and i'm going to try to pick up as many as I can in the $5-8 range. I even splurged on another card of his but I will update when I have that in hand.

Picked up his Insciriptions card for a solid $8 on the bay. Pretty even with current prices but I expect to flip this for at least $15 around draft time. Also picked up his base auto for $8 at the LCS (Atlanta Sports Cards....thanks Chris!). May have overpaid a tad for it but expect a turnaround of at least $15 on this too at some point...maybe after the draft.

The bottom 3 pickups are prospects but are for my tigers PC. Got the Figaro blue for $6 dlvd. jacob Turner auto for $15 dlvd. Not really a steal or deal at $15 but i've been slow to get his stuff and saw a BIN for $15 and jumped since thats what they go for currently...maybe even a little more. I see him panning out well for the Tigers but even if he does the card will be staying in the PC. The last card is of a guy one of the local prospectors and fellow tigers fans (Brian in ATL)tipped me off to. His 2009 stuff is super cheap and as a second round pick I feel he's got great value. Got this for $7 at Atlanta Sports Cards. So all in all a fun day for project prospect, and for the PC too. On days when I don't recieve anything in the mail I may just highlight some of the better items in my Tigers/Purdue PC.

On the sales front, I just flipped the Borchering for 100% profit. Paid $3 and made $6. Yes, I could have held and made more but the object of this is to make as much as I can in as short a time holding the cards as I can. So here's an update of where I stand below:

Part 2...so soon?

So as soon as I typed out post 1 I went to the mailbox and found a little present and the topic of post #2. I'll show up my PC pickups in this blog as well. Shout out to FCB member braves2008champs (of what? lol) for hooking me up with this lot. Got it for $23 dlvd. Been looking for this Verlander auto for a long time so thanks for that. I'm allocating $17 to the purchase of that because thats what the last one went for. For the 2 Medlen's pictured, these will be a quick flip for me. The LCS around the corner loves to stock Braves and these will be hot sellers for sure. I am allocating $2 to the Refractor and $4 to the X-Fractor. Will definitely make a profit off of these 2 cards...as will the LCS!

So here's where I stand:

A little about my adventure...

Well, I had a good weekend at the card show, and I have gotten away from the prospecting hobby a little bit and found some new resolve to get back into it. Since I have a few bucks in the paypal account I figured Id use it to buy some PC items and some prospects I'm either very high on or can make a quick flip because i just got that good of a deal. Along the way i'll tell how I got the card, about my experiences at shows buying or selling or hanging out with cool people and LCS owners that make up my hobby experience.

The rules will be this...All cards are paid for in cash, Paypal or trade. Current SV will be used at my discretion for trades. Will scan each card and allocate costs accordingly and fairly if I buy in a lot. Since I am buying cards and am paying for delivery, my sale prices will include delivery as well. It will make it easier to track that way instead of calculating ebay fees and shipping fees on everything. All money invested into this project will roll over...that is...if I buy a card for this and then sell it...all the proceeds will go to into the bank or into buying more cards. Hopefully this will snowball and when im done i'll have an impressive collection and have some $$$ made in profits! There are no rules about how long I must hold a card. I can flip it the next day if I want to or hold it for the duration.

Did pretty well to start out with a pickup of a 2009 Bowman Sterling Lot for $20. For the 20 spot I got a Zack Wheeler base auto, a Bobby Borchering base auto, a Wilmer Font Gold refractor #/50 and a Julio Teheran ref #/199. Scan is below. The Teheran was in a $1 box and i've already flipped it for $6.

So so far in the project I have bought 4 cards, sold 1. Spent $20 and made $6 back already. At the bottom of My posts it will look like this....I will periodically post a spreadsheet or something of that nature so that this can be kept up with.
